A strategic alliance between PPL Corporation
and Susquehanna Paper & Sanitary Supply has resulted in savings
of over a million dollars for the company.
Continually searching for ways to improve employee
and shareholder value, PPL decided in 1998 to consolidate its janitorial
products and cleaning supplies in an effort to take advantage of
volume discounts and establish consistent purchasing standards.
At the time, PPL was handling a long list of products from a large
number of manufacturers, and Susquehanna Paper & Sanitary Supply
was called on to develop a product consolidation and standardization
program. "Before our alliance with Susquehanna Paper, we actually
handled over 60 different hand soaps throughout our company,"
says Norma Gruber, a regulatory compliance professional at PPL.
"Now, with Susquehanna Paper's help, we've been able to reduce
that number to less than ten."
The PPL-Susquehanna Paper alliance has benefited
power plants, distribution centers, and PPL facilities throughout
the company. Cleaning supplies, floor care products, paper supplies,
and even ice melt products have all become standardized, and PPL
has enjoyed significant savings due to volume discounts. In addition,
Susquehanna Paper has helped PPL replace previously used hazardous
products with environmentally friendly alternatives.
"I can't say enough about the quality of
Susquehanna Paper's team of employees and the superb line of products
offered by the company," adds Gruber. "The Susquehanna
Paper staff is always customer-focused and willing to stand behind
their products, and we pride ourselves on the win-win business relationship
we have with them."
PPL Corporation, headquartered in Allentown,
Pennsylvania, generates electricity at power plants in Pennsylvania,
Maine, and Montana; markets wholesale or retail energy in 42 U.S.
states and Canada; and delivers electricity to nearly 6 million
customers in Pennsylvania, the United Kingdom, and Latin America.
